Binance has appointed Yi He, one of its original co-founders, as co-CEO. The announcement was made on stage during Binance Blockchain Week, where current CEO Richard Teng confirmed the decision. He described the move as “a natural progression” and recognized Yi He’s role in shaping Binance since its early days.

Prior to her new role, Yi He served as Binance’s Chief Marketing Officer. According to Teng, she has played a key role in growing the company’s user base and supporting product development. The decision to bring her into the co-CEO position adds a new layer to the company’s leadership structure.

Meanwhile, Yi He helped launch Binance in 2017 alongside Changpeng Zhao, commonly known as CZ. Her efforts in marketing and communications helped the exchange grow during its early stages and maintain its global presence.

In her new position as co-CEO, Yi He will continue to work on product development, marketing strategy, and community growth. She said that working with Teng allows the company to “use two very different perspectives.” She added that Teng brings “experience in regulated financial markets,” while she brings knowledge rooted in the crypto-native world.

Richard Teng’s Position and Binance’s Direction

Richard Teng took over as CEO of Binance in November 2023 after CZ stepped down. Teng was previously the head of regional markets outside the U.S. Before joining Binance, he held roles in regulatory and financial institutions, including the Abu Dhabi Global Market and the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

Teng’s promotion came after CZ pleaded guilty to U.S. legal charges and agreed to step aside as part of a broader settlement with U.S. authorities. Since taking on the role, Teng has worked on navigating compliance and maintaining Binance’s global operations. With Yi He now sharing the CEO role, the company is adjusting its leadership structure to support its continued operations.

Ongoing Company Focus

Binance continues to operate as one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges. The company has been focusing on compliance, user safety, and expanding its product offerings.

With the dual leadership of Teng and Yi He, Binance aims to balance regulatory strategy with core crypto innovation. The new leadership model will work to keep Binance aligned with both market demands and evolving global regulations.
